KALEICI

Kaleici, an old town that is located in the centre of a modern city Antalya, is undoubtfully one of the best places you can ever be. Inside, there are many old houses, restaurants, caffes, bars, souvenir stores that thousands of tourists delightfully visit each year. In this Old City, there are many interesting places that tourists love and one of which is the Hadrianus Gate. The Hadrianus Gate was built for Roman Kaiser named Hadrianus, (130 AD). This gate is located in the Ataturk Street. There are three arches on this gate. Hadrianus Gate is made out of marble. The gate is called “Üç Kapılar”, which means “three gates”.

Another place to see in Kaleici is the Marina, which is also very old. Now, however, the Marina is only used for touristic purposes. Marina is surrounded by beautiful Restaurants which many tourists visit for the delicious food.

There you can find Yivlie Minare, which is another old structure in Kaleici. Yivlie Minare was built with the order of Sultan 1st Alaeddin Keykubad. This Minare is 38m in length and is visible from many places around Antalya.

The Clock Tower is another long structure that was made out of stones during the reign and Sultan 2nd Ahmet upon his orders. Initially, this tower lacked a clock but later, it was also constructed.

ASPENDOS

Aspendos is another old city, 40 kilometres from Antalya. This historical city was built hundreds of years before Christ. However, on the 2nd and 3rd centuries, the city became so modern that iron coin was produced. There is a huge Amphitheatre found in Aspendos in which 15000 people can fit. It is located over a hill. The Amphitheatre was built by the ancient Romans. The Amphitheatre was constructed during the 2nd century. On the south of Aspendos, there are other canals and waterways which gave the whole city access to water.

There is an old story that the Sultan had a very beautiful girl on the age of marriage. Many young men wished to marry her, but the Sultan announced that he would let his daughter marry with the one whose work he likes most. The constructers of both Amphitheatre and Canals accept this deal. However, the Sultan likes both of their construction very much and offers them to cut his daughter in half, giving both of them half of her. While the constructer of the Canals accepts this offer, Amphitheatre’s constructer rejects it, gaining the right to marry Sultan’s daughter.

The Amphitheatre was designed as a semicircle, and it involves 59 arches. The Amphitheatre was constructed for the Sultan’s family.
